Tarangire National Park
Giant baobabs and great herds of elephants
Northern Circuit
Discover Tarangire
Tarangire is known for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. In the dry season the Tarangire River becomes the main water source for the region, drawing elephants, buffalo, zebra and wildebeest into the park in great numbers.
Less visited than the Serengeti, Tarangire has a relaxed, wild feel. Its varied landscapes of river valleys, swamps and woodland support tree-climbing lions, leopards and a rich birdlife of more than 500 species. It is an easy drive from Arusha, making it a perfect start to a northern circuit safari.
Wildlife & sights
- Herds of elephants along the Tarangire River
- Ancient baobab trees on the ridges
- Excellent birding all year round
- Quieter game drives with fewer vehicles
