Rongai Route

Route Overview
About the Rongai Route
The only route approaching from the north, near the Kenyan border: drier, quieter and gentler.
Rongai starts in pine forest close to the Kenya border and climbs through remote wilderness with views across the plains. The north side receives less rain, making it a good choice in the wetter months. It descends via the Marangu route, so you see both sides of the mountain.
Why choose it
- Quiet and uncrowded
- Drier side of the mountain
- Gentler gradients
Keep in mind
- Less dramatic scenery early on
- Long transfer to the start
