Just outside Arusha town, this small but varied park rises from the Momella Lakes to the slopes of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain at 4,566 metres.
Arusha National Park is one of the few northern parks where you can walk with an armed ranger or paddle a canoe on the Momella Lakes. Black-and-white colobus monkeys swing through the forest, giraffes and buffalo graze the Ngurdoto Crater, and flamingos often gather on the lakes. It makes a perfect first or last day on safari.
