Gombe Stream National Park
Chimpanzees on the shores of Lake Tanganyika
Western Circuit
Discover Gombe
Gombe is one of Tanzania's smallest national parks and world-famous as the place where Jane Goodall began studying wild chimpanzees in 1960.
Steep forested valleys run down to the clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. Guided treks follow habituated chimpanzee families through the forest, and olive baboons and colobus monkeys are common. The park is reached by boat from Kigoma.
