What to Pack for a Tanzania Safari

26 September 2026

Pack light, dress in layers and bring good binoculars. Our simple checklist for a comfortable safari.

Safari packing is simpler than most people expect. Many light-aircraft flights have a soft-bag limit of around 15 kg, and most lodges offer laundry, so less really is more.

Clothing

  • Neutral colours such as khaki, beige, olive and brown
  • Light long-sleeved shirts and trousers for sun and insects
  • A warm fleece or jacket for cold early mornings, especially at Ngorongoro
  • A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
  • Comfortable closed shoes plus sandals for camp
  • Swimwear if you are adding Zanzibar

Essentials

  • Binoculars, one pair per person if possible
  • Camera with a zoom lens, spare batteries and memory cards
  • Sunscreen, lip balm and insect repellent
  • Any personal medication and a small first-aid kit
  • A universal plug adapter and power bank
  • Copies of your passport, visa and travel insurance

Good to know

Plastic carrier bags are banned in Tanzania, so pack toiletries in reusable pouches. Ask your doctor about recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention well before you travel.

Once you book, we send a full packing list tailored to your itinerary and travel month.
