Itinerary
An early morning pickup from Arusha or Moshi starts your Mount Kilimanjaro trek with Ceraa Eyes Safari. A 2–3-hour drive takes you to Umbwe Gate, where our team handles registration and permits.
Day one of the umbwe route 5 day itinerary opens with a steep climb through thick rainforest. Giant trees, wildlife and rich biodiversity surround you, which makes it a thrilling start to Kilimanjaro trekking in Tanzania.
The trail soon turns demanding, climbing along narrow ridges and through dense forest, which is why the route suits experienced trekkers. By late afternoon you reach Umbwe Camp for dinner and a night in the peaceful rainforest.
Breakfast is followed by the next stage of your Kilimanjaro climb. You leave the rainforest behind and enter moorland, with open scenery and pretty valleys. As you slowly gain height, this part of the umbwe route 5 day trek rewards you with striking views of Mount Kilimanjaro's ridges and rugged terrain.
Close to Barranco Camp, the Umbwe Route merges with the Machame Route: The Whiskey Trail up Kilimanjaro. That aids acclimatization and gives you wonderful views of the famous Barranco Wall. You reach Barranco Camp in the afternoon for dinner and a night under the looming cliffs.
This is among the most exciting days of the umbwe route 5 day climb. You begin with the Barranco Wall, a thrilling climb that needs no technical skills, and spectacular views of glaciers and valleys reward you at the top. The trail then crosses alpine desert towards Barafu Camp.
To maintain the quick pace of the ascent, you bypass Karanga Camp, which makes this a tough but efficient Kilimanjaro trek. At Barafu Camp you rest, eat an early dinner and get ready for the midnight summit attempt.
On the umbwe route 5 day journey, the summit push starts at midnight. You hike beneath the stars towards Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. The climb is demanding and calls for stamina and resolve, yet arriving at the top at sunrise rewards you with unforgettable views and an achievement you will carry for life.
Having celebrated at Uhuru Peak, you walk down to Barafu Camp for a brief rest. The descent carries on to Mweka Camp, where you have dinner and spend the night. That completes the summit stage.
After breakfast you descend through lush rainforest on the Mweka Route, savouring the closing moments of your Mount Kilimanjaro trek with Ceraa Eyes Safari.
At Mweka Gate the trail finishes, where you handle the exit formalities and pick up your summit certificates. Afterwards we drive you to Arusha or Moshi, concluding your successful 5-day Kilimanjaro climbing experience in Tanzania.
