Itinerary
Your 2-day Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater safari begins when you are collected early from your Arusha hotel or lodge, then driven through pretty countryside to Tarangire National Park, among the loveliest and most game-rich reserves in Tanzania.
The park is best known for its big elephant herds and giant baobab trees, and for the life-giving Tarangire River, which draws a great range of animals all year round.
Start with a long morning game drive over open savannah and riverine habitats, where elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo and numerous bird species may show themselves. Around midday, stop at a designated picnic site for lunch in the heart of the wilderness.
The game drive carries on through the afternoon of your 2-day Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater safari, taking you to more wildlife hotspots with plenty of chances for photographs. Later in the evening you drive to Ngare Lodge to check in, have dinner and sleep well.
Accommodation: Ngare Lodge
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Following an early breakfast, your 2-day Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater safari continues by road to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, which is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and is the largest unbroken volcanic caldera anywhere. You then descend 600 meters to the crater floor for an excellent game drive among the richest wildlife regions in Africa.
The Big Five live in the crater too: lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and the rare black rhino. Hippos, hyenas, zebras, flamingos and wildebeest may also cross your path. Around midday you picnic beside the hippo pool, enjoying fine views and close encounters with animals.
During the afternoon you visit other parts of the crater on your 2-day Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater safari, which also gives you the best chance of seeing rare and iconic animals. After climbing back to the crater rim, you call at a traditional Maasai village for a taste of authentic culture. You then return to Arusha and are dropped at your hotel or the airport, which ends your safari.
