01When to Go: Ideal Months for Visiting Ngorongoro Crater
You can safari in Ngorongoro all year, though the experience changes with the season.
Dry Season (June – October)
Ideal for: Clear skies and excellent wildlife viewing. Animals cluster around water, so they are simpler to find, and the roads are in better shape. These are busy months, so expect more visitors.
Wet Season (November – May)
Best for: Smaller crowds, green scenery and birdwatching. The short rains fall in November and December, and the heavier "long rains" run from March to May. February is wildebeest calving season, which makes it excellent for watching predators.
Crater Rim Weather
Mornings and evenings are cool to cold, especially at height (the rim sits at ~2,200 meters or 7,200 feet). Pack warm layers for early morning game drives. Inside the crater, daytime temperatures are mild and pleasant.
